Nosing around at the back of the grassy flat, pick up the start of an old logging track. This zigzags its way up the face to hit the spur around the 300m contour. A slip 80m above the river blocks the track to wheeled traffic.

Once on the spur, a steep, stony logging track climbs all the way to the Oddlands Rd. This section is occasionally trafficked by quads and motorbikes - mainly hunters and trappers.

From the junction just NW of pt764, an old logging track drops steeply north down the spur. This section is occasionally trafficked by quads and motorbikes - mainly hunters and trappers.

Reaching the 300m contour, the track swings sharply right and zigzags down the eastern face. A slip half-way down the section blocks progress for wheeled vehicles but can be walked past with ease.

The track exists at the back of a large grassy flat above the Ngatiawa Stream. Good campspots exist.
