From the park boundary a cut/marked track follows Acton Stream upriver for 6km before climbing the eastern valleyside and sidling towards the saddle with the Cromel. A signposted turnoff is reached 1km before the saddle with a track coming over from Cromel Base Hut to the south.

Note: Described in the reverse direction to your journey

From the Cromel Base turnoff the cut/marked track continues to sidle the valleyside for a further 1.5km before dropping down a spur to the valley floor. The track then follows Acton Stream downriver to the park boundary.

Acton Hut is in a clearing 400m east along the fenceline then up the next sidecreek.
