From the junction with the Cromel Base track, a good cut marked track sidles NNE aong the valleyside before dropping into the Cromel valley. The track ends at the bushedge, and marker poles mark the last few hundred meters to Cromel Branch Hui - on the eatstern bushedge of the large clearing.

Follow marker poles south from Cromel Branch hut along the eastern valleyside to the end of the clearing. A good cut, marked track starts at the bushedge. Initially the track follows the creek before climbing and sidling the eastern valleyside. 500m south of the saddle (itself not obvious) a large DOC triangle marks the turnoff east to Cromel Base.
