An excellent track drops south off Cone, soon entering the bush. It follows the spur descending at an easy gradient through first beech, later podocarp forest to the signposted track junction at Cone Saddle.

An excellent track climbs north from Cone Saddle to Cone highpoint,Following the sup up through good bush it emerges onto clear tops just before the summit. A signpost mark the turnoff north to Neill Forks and Totora Flats Huts.
