From the track junction, the cut, marked Potae-Ruahine Corner track follows the defined ridgeline NNE, passing the top of a large, grassy slip. After this it enters flat tops of young bush, descending gently before emerging 600m later at the stark line dividing the bush of the Ruahines from the tussock tops beyond. Ruahine Corner Hut is 300m west along the bush edge along a poled route.

From Ruahine Corner Hut, a poled route leads 300m east along the bushedge before swinging south and entering the bush as a cut, marked track. After 600m a clear ridgeline forms, which the track follows past a large grassy slip, reaching the signposted junction with the track SE towards the main range after 1.5km.
