This is an old NZFS track. From the confluence/forks in Waiohine River, pick up the track on the true right at the base of the spur that heads in a northwest direction up to pt. 1090. The gradient at the bottom of the climb is moderate, but it quickly sharpens at the 980m & is unrelenting to pt. 1090. Beyond this pt, the track swings to the north, the bush is more open & the gradient 'eases' somewhat, but the track continues to climb to the bushline at the 1020m contour. Beyond this, the climb is through open mixed scrub to the slip on the east side of pt. 1285.
