From the signposted turnoff from the Keplar a short gravelled track runs west to the shore of Lake Manapouri. Follow the lakeshore a further 600m west to reach Shallow Bay Hut. An alternative bush track starts half way to the hut but is not needed unless the lake is high.

Follow either the lakeshore or marked track east from Shallow Bay Hut for 600m. A signpost at the rear of the beach marks the start of the short track running east 300m to join the Keplar Track.
