The St James cycleway continues north uop the eastern bank of the Waiau from the signposted crossing point / track junction. The 4wd carpark is reached after 400m. A further kilometer later another junction is reached where the Maling Pass track (St James cycleway) swings east and starts to climb, while an unmarked 4WD track continues up the eastern bank of the Waiau, providing access towards Waiau Hut and Pass.

The 4WD St James Cycleway continues down the Waiau to end at a 4WD carpark opposite Glacier Gully. The cycleway continues from here minus 4wd access.

About 400m past the carpark is a signposted track junction providing access to the western bank of the Waiau for those headed to Anne / Christopher huts.
