Climb east from the basin Omahuru Hut is located in, back up onto the MR. This junction is not sign posted but a cage trap may be present. A well cut & well marked track (permolat & yellow triangles) heads north along the ridge to the track between Matai Valley Rd & Onepu Hut, climbing over pt. 662 in the process. Other trap lines branch off in places & care is required in order to remain on the MR track. The junction is marked with a 'this is not a track' sign at the saddle.

The track south from the saddle is marked by a 'This is not a track' sign. A great, well markd, well cut track follows the ridgeline south, marked with permolat and yellow triangles. Other traplines branch off in place and care is required the stick to the main ridgeline track. Omahura Hut is just visible in a basin to the west of the track just after the 2nd highpoint. A cage-trap was located at the turnoff when I visited, but is was not signposted.
