The unnamed tributary is easily followed with numerous crossings and the occasional short foray into the scrub to get around a boulder. Once in the upper reaches, angle up and left to gain the ridge at the tarn.
Traverse the ridge over Mt Stephenson and Rainytop.
There is an old track through the minimal scrub to reach the bushline. The track disappears in the bush but it is not too steep. There are some large boulders towards the bottom to reach the tussocky leads. There is a rough old track through the tussocky leads and scrub across to the saddle.
