Cross the Toaroha at Cedar flat, and follow the track downriver (upriver is the wren creek hot pools). Follow well marked track through the bush, with the odd steep section to get above the Toaroha Canyon and climbing in and out of side creeks. Some of these side creeks were impassable in heavy rain by parties that left after us. We took the flood route above the Toaroha River, which steeply climbs the spur north of Charles Ridge.
