From the track junction below Styx Saddle, follow the benched packtrack downriver, sidling the face. The track later drops to the flat valley floor, reaching the swingbridge to Mudflats Hut 1km later.

Cross back over the swingbridge from Mudflats Hut, and follow the gentle-graded, platformed Styx – Arahura pack track up the western valleyside. The track forks just below the Styx Saddle, the left fork continuing up the Arahura to Harman Hut and Browning Pass, leading to the head of the Wilberforce. The right fork heads over the low but boggy tussock saddle into the Styx.
