The St James Cycleway runs down the eastern valleyside of the Waiau. The track is benched, and of gentle gradient though not surfaced so can be soft for cycling, especially after freeze-thaw.

A signpost marks the junction with the east-west track leading east to Lake Guyon and crossing the Waiau west to join tracks to Anne / Christopher.
