From the 6' track junction, a well-worn Paetawa track makes the descent to the river - often worn to over a meter deep. The creek at the bottom is unbridged but small, trickling over mossy stones. The ascent on the west bank is not obvious - and starts 30m upriver. Once on it it is well marked, cut - but a steady, steep gradient 100m to the ridgeline.
